Shameless plug alert:
There's a presentation by one of Al Gore's Ambassadors next friday in Adelaide, giving the inconvenient truth theme a bit of an australian twist.
The speaker is also a wind farm engineer.

There's also an Australia-wide (read: some major cities) event to build 3m high wind turbines from Lego. Ours is happening in rundle mall.

Sorry to advertise, but it seemed relevant. I can post or PM more details if interested.

I for one would be VERY interested in small windturbines! The only ones i could find here were 1metre too high for council approval( :evil:Guess i could still use one and cut 1 metre off and use the steel for GB frames! more info PLEASE!

Motor to drive the turbine (becuase Lego doesn't catch wind very well!), and a generator off the turbine will produce a bit of power, enough to light up a little LED logo.

There'll be a live hookup between states to show progress, a bit of friendly competition.

Last night I caught a repeat broadcast of a PBS, Frontline edition from April 24, 2007. The title of it was Hot Politics. It discussed the US government, the Kyoto agreement, and global warming. Really interesting. If you have the time look for the PBS website (PBS.org) and look for Frontline. I believe many of the shows are archived.

In a nutshell, the story tells how Clinton and Gore signed the Kyoto agreement, but did not take it to Congress for ratification. Basically, the President and Vice-President agreed to the deal, but didn't go to the bank to pay for it, so it went nowhere. Now Bush II is trying to cover up and silence governmental reports and scientists who state that man has exasperated the global warming situation, and what the effect will be upon the planet.

Ok so watched Al Gore's Film. Had some good points and had some useless stuff. I can see it being useful as it might make some people more aware of what is happening Ie Consumerism.

Best part of the film i saw was that the world is on a course to right itself even if we do nothing about it. I mean if even 20% of the world population is lost to flooding, diseases, oh and don't forget mayhem (aka Katrina rioting). That loss would make a big impact on our consumption and or production.

I guess i kind of see an irony here. "lets save the planet from this ______ just so we will wreck it another way". In reality it is not about saving the planet per se but more about saving our own butts. What would be so bad if the earth did a number on us and we fell by the millions. I mean yeah a lot of people would die but that might be what is needed to solve the problem less consumption and less production.

for me the think that stuck uot the most was the graph correlating previos CO2 cycles and ice ages and "normal temps" and then the size of the graph as it went up and up and up and up.
