G'day all,

Redleg, I can get 500 silvers for 350$ deliverd if your keen to go halvies, I'll put the excess in my dam. not a fan of oysters but don't mind the odd prawn

TT, sorry im abit late but im using all 40mm (dwv) to the beds and 100mm return, i used a hole saw big enough so they just sit over the bottom of the drain plugs (dont spill a drop and heaps cheaper obviously). As for as whether im happy with.......hell yes, I spent alot of time thinking and planning what i was going to do and couldn't be happier with the result. Price was the big issue and i like the idea of one pump and gravity feed return. Only regret...using dodgy gravel :? :D

EB, the picy might help, i can't remember the names of the fittings but they were all in stock and it can definitely be done. I went for dwv to reduce costs (alot) and believe it to be more than adequate to the task. bit tricky to fit with 'drainage' angles (88 degrees)

As for the dwv debate, i used all 40mm dwv as supply bar the intake line to the pump and the taps/valves. It might not be pressure rated but your spot on delgrade, its a hell of alot cheaper and more adequate to the task. all fittings are green glued. The only draw back using dwv is that it doesn't come in exact 90 degree angles, i really don't notice. any how they say a picture speaks a thousand word...heres 3 thousand. :D

ok, nearly got ya mate. Couple more Q's.
Could u name the exact brand and type of pump ur running? I read u run it 24/7.
Ur drainage from the tubs- do u just drain freely thru the bathplug hole, or do u have a plug with say a 5-10mm drainage hole cut into it?
Sorry to be a pain, but u are making my life easier, so thanx for ur help.

hi TT,

those tubs of yours look pretty good!!!! go the tubs!!! the 24/7 pump is an air pump(85ltr/min). the water one is an ex pool pump...onga 400watt which cycles every 2 hrs for 15min. the tubs are flood n drain JM style with the stand pipe plug fitted and 4mm hole drilled in the bottom. hope this helps.

Actually, the most common schedule 40 can take quite a bit of pressure. I have used some older gray pvc for a supply line for more than 30 years at pressures running around 80 psi off of the main. The gray is lighter, probably a sched 20 or 30. (It is most often used now as non metallic electrical conduit.) We can also buy schedule 80 if we want it. It has a thick enough sidewall you can actually thread the ends like steel pipe!

Worms, do they offer 45 deg "street" el's? If so you can take two of them to make your ninety, that is what my plumber does. It costs a little more than using a regular ninety, and takes up a little more space too, but it works.

Love your system, can't want to do mine using the same principals! :thumbright:

Kevin

nice idea moke! haven't checked but i have a feeling even the 45's are slightly less, there all made this way to provide aedquate drainage angle hence dwv, im too much of a tight ass to buy the extra fittings anyhow :D

Your on TT....GO THE BLUES

sounds like a plan worms. Need to establish a few ground rules!
I look like having my setup operational Sept1, with 300 2-3 inch silvers. What size are yours again, i forget?

6000 lt fishtank with 4000lt of gb space. They won't place much of a load on the system for a few months, plenty of time to upscale the gh or offload a few. Did i say 2-3 inches, i meant 2-3 cms, perhaps even smaller hehe.
