Recently I have received a number of comments and complaints about the language being used on the forum, the tone of some posts, and the level of inappropriate posts. Can we all please make a concerted effort to keep the bad language out of the forum, and try and refrain from the continual one liners and smart comments that don’t really aid the discussion thread..

You can go for your life in the general banter section, I’ll even create some more general chat sections if this will help keep the other discussion threads free… If anyone has suggestions of ways that we can help keep discussions on topic, or help make the general banter area more useful, I’d love to hear them…

Thanks
Joel

:)

What about a thread as a speak easy!
This might tend to reduce the banter, as the chatroom is good but all can enter.
Remembering what we're here for, and also all work and no play makes jack a bore!

Many forums have a 'random thoughts or a rants and rave thread'. It's a good place for people to just post things that come up or if they need to vent about something without starting a whole new thread about it or hijacking another thread. Just a suggestion.

....I think as far as the "hijacking " goes, like in ANY form of conversation there will always be a comment made when someone see's the lighter side of something. Right or not is just human nature.

I think what makes this forum better than other's relating to AP is the non nazi like approach to its control and its more layed back format..I think the number of members here is testament to this fact.

Yes some of the language hasnt been necessary, yes there are alot of comments that shouldnt have been made, but Im sure they were made in the "heat"of the moment/ off the cuff and would lose their context if posted on another thread

Im Kent Brockman and thats my 2 cents

I like rassd71's idea of having a place to "rant" alittle, however, we all need to use a little self control in our language. I can get on a "band wagon" with the best of them, and live with plenty of people that can go off at the drop of a hat, but every time we start adding those extra adjectives we put the whole conversation on a "sour note". If we want to comment on a certain subject we can always post a "go to" note on the site we are commenting about. On the lighter note we should all feel that our opinion is important, and it is. Stay 8)

I agree, a few months ago there were people complaining about the amount of "big toe" comments in the forum, but these little bits of light hearted comments make the forum what it is, very Friendly! Yes it is a great site for the discussion and dissemmation(I'm sure I've spelt that wrong) of information, but it is also another way to socially interact with like minded people. Without the banter this forum would be very dry and flavourless, not friendly, vibrant and welcoming and Fun. Not that I agree with hijacking peoples threads intentionally(I don't think anyone does that) either and I apologise if I have ever done that:contrite:
Ahhh... yep that's my $.02
Cheers Alx

I think many of us dont (cant) follow the forums, because there have been items deleted! I can understand why,but it makes it hard to understand someones site if bits are cut out here and there! Pick a site ,Members and try to read through from go to whoa .You just cant follow it right through! Take ,Aquamad,JP, C1,EKB, Monya EB

and many others ,read from page 1 to finish ,there seem to be pages missing! (doesnt mean im gonna stop reading everyones systems!)

Hi Niloc,
As a general rule, this forum doesn't delete posts, although there are exceptions. Offensive stuff may get removed, although even the spammers usually just get their links disabled. The big exception that I am aware of is that at one point, some Members' systems were cleaned up to make them 'formal' and/or 'complete'. All the banter was removed. That lasted only a few months, and I assume that those cleaned threads were just returned to the Members Systems section, and not 're-bantered'. My thread was not cleaned because it is (still) a work in progress, but perhaps some of the others that you listed were. Oh, and then there was the ugly time when a disgruntled (now ex-) member started deleting all his posts. I don't think we recovered all those, and it's a shame because he is very knowledgeable.

Monya,
I agree that this forum needs to be accessible to all age groups, and that we don't need to have smutty comments here. My 7 year-old is quite a good reader, and it won't be too long before she wants to see what I spend so much time reading on the computer. There are some comments that have been made here lately that I just shouldn't need to explain to her yet.

Axl,
I agree that banter is fun, and I enjoy the running jokes about big toes and our invented emoticons :newbielookingconfused: Sometimes it does get a bit carried away, and I just hope that folks try to balance their posts between useful information and banter. My rule for myself is that I try to post only if I have something helpful/useful to say, but if I then happen to put in a bit of banter, too--that's OK. I -think- I mostly adhere to that...OK, sometimes I might not, but I try really hard.

Yep - some of our thread had got really long and quite unmanagable. At one stage I deleted almost half of the posts. It didn't take anything away from the fluidity of the thread though. Of course now it is back to twice the size. Clean ups are a good thing if they are done down the track and only dlete banter which has passed its used by date. Nobody is interested in reading that later on.
