you mean RH?

lower RH would mean more evap and thus more cooling effect.

google wet bulb calculator

wet bulb temp will be the temp of the evap pads (and hence air) through the cooler.

Hey MC, did you get that float problem on the pump sorted out, or did you get side tracked?

We haven't had much rain here since the fourth. We've still got enough moisture that almost everything is still green and lush. They are calling for thunderstorms this evening and until mid day tomorrow. It is getting a bit dry down underneath the vegetation, but still not to the point of making everything go summer dormant.

Hope you don't have any wildfires in your neighborhood. I know that there is always something burning, even if it is just a chicken leg or two on the BBQ!

Kevin

Swamp coolers work well in large sections of the US. pretty much from Kansas west, except the coast. I used to live in Utah, and I could not quite cool my apartment with a cool mist humidifier and a fan. I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and we routinely had 100 F degrees (37C) and 100% humidity. Swamp coolers didn't do much of anything there. I'm now in North Carolina, and we have lower RH, but not low enough for swamp coolers to do much good.

LOL, the pump!

Yeh, the pumps are bullet proof as long as the water is clean, let it sludge up becasue of no clean outs for 4 years and that'll take your pump out nicely. ;)

Some of the folks I know who use swampers add bleach to the water. Works fine, so long as you are not constantly adding water back to your system.

What I meant by MC getting side tracked was work/life in the real world. I understand about not feeling like doing much when you get home after work. I normally pull 6 days per week, done on a split shift, and a Sunday every other week (a straight 9 hr + dayshift). The Sunday really takes it out of me when I get home around 9 PM Saturday night and have to get back up at 4:30AM to go back to work, then get home around 5:30PM, and have to leave to go back to work at 12:30AM! I never seem to have time to get everything done because of a 13 day work week and one day off out of every 14.

Steve, to give you an idea of what it is like here today the temp at 1PM was 79 with a RH of 82 and a comfort index temp of 82. This morning at 5AM it was in the mid 70's (don't remember the exact temp or humidity) with heavy fog. Visibility was only twenty or thirty feet at ground level, real soupy! I know there are a few others who either live fairly close to here, or who grew up in the midwest, and who can verify that we get really muggy weather. Probably the only place that is worse is down along the gulf; New Orleans, to S. Texas in particular.
