i was talking to a Australian solder at work, and we were talking about one of my other hobbies, paintball. he told me he has allways wanted to play, but that to play in Australia you have to get a license. is that true?
btw, im taking him to play before he goes back.

Not true, provided you just hire your equipment from the paint ball place. If you wanted to own your own rifle, then you would need a licence.

Those things hurt. Only shot em once, while attending a Shipboard Engagement Tactics Course. The mission was to take back a nuclear weapons area from the bad guys. Of course the instructors (bad guys) were padded to the gills, so much so that when I shot one in the gut the paint ball just bounced off as he blew my pinky finger off. Fun as all Hell.

If he is a soldier, he should have a firearms license already.

Paintball as an absolute blast, loads of fun.

it depends on the state as to whether it is legal or not.
In wa for many years it was technically illegal, however the police force used the commercial operations as training grounds... go figure.

damn fun though

i'm with fizzy. was technically illegal in vic without a class B firearm licence, day got cut short once due to police "presence" turn a blind eye stuff ;)

not sure if its changed now. Bloody ridiculous forcing some one who just wants to shoot some paint balls to get a class B firearm licence which allows them to own a shotty. Yeh, thats smart gun control for ya!

and yes, BLOODY hurts.

I heard a rumour that the ADF discouraged new recruits from playing becasue it highlighted how EASY it was for them to get killed in real life......dunno if its true!

Don't think it is automatic Nova, certainly trained in the use of all types of weapons but doesn't come with a civilian licence (unless there has been changes)

Hey MC, tell the guy if he ever gets a TDY to Ft. Leavenworth (War College), or to Whiteman AFB, or possibly Ft. Riley, he should go to KC. We have a place here where you play paintball in a simulated city inside some of the underground storage caves. (They are actually old limestone mines.) He can buy a face mask and goggles at WalMart, use an old BDU over his regular clothes, and then just rent the gun and helmet, and of course purchase his CO2 and paintballs from the place.

The US military and most law enforcement agencies use it in tactical training specifically for the purpose of teaching concealment, cover and tactics to soldiers and officers. It cuts down on the total number of casualties when they understand you can't just stand out in the open and blaze away at someone! By the way, the police here have been using more military type training courses for thier officers because it was found by researchers that the police had a lower effective fire rate than the criminals, and that the police had a higher rate of sustained injuries and deathes! (In other words the police couldn't hit the side of a barn from the inside, when compared to the crooks!) These studies by the way were what caused tighter gun laws in the US for awhile, but during that time no lower criminal activity rates or gun violence were seen because of them.
