Looks like the bad one to me AM. Those buggers ate all my potatoes one year and also love all the cucurbits leaves.

red and black bug is Plecia amplipennis

adults sluggish, poor fliers, sometimes seen resting on leaves during the day, but probably more active at night, attracted to lights. Larvae probably occur in rotting vegetation

I got rid of the aphids on the eggplants by spraying them with Seasol. They all just died :D

So far the insects have kept the aphids in check... crossed fingers that they continue to do so :)

That's the 28 spotted lady bug - for a quick and easy check, just count the dots on one side and multiply by two :tongueincheek:

i DID THAT ... AND LO AND BEHOLD THERE WERE 14 ON EACH SIDE (damn caps lock! :( )

yep, All these insects are in my system... every now and then a new one pops up (but then again I do a LOT of searching and leaf turning every morning with the camera in my pocket ;) )

the hope is that the more I understand the insects in my system the better I will be able to judge the health of my system
