anyone got some up to date info on these guys? Done plenty of netsurfing and hard to find up to date info. Thinking about using them in the next system.

I found a little bit of stuff on the internet, I thought they sounded pretty good: excellent eating, can be stocked to reasonably high density, can stand a reasonable temperature range (but I think my current water temp of 9 is probably a bit too low), and placid enough that you can actually handle them. I dont know how quickly they grow? I dont know if anyone on the forum has any?

FF, morning temp is 14-15C, i have 2 300watt wands in the 1000lt tank. With winter finally hitting us, it struggles up to about 17, so they aren't feeding much. Stopping pumping o'night, see if this retains a bit of heat.

Given sleepy cod can be stocked at very high densities, perhaps we would get a greater veg yield per tank of fish. Min buy from Aussiefish is 300 at $1.00 plus gst,freight etc. Might give em a fly later in the year.

Saw a couple tanks at TAFE Epping last week. Apparently they have been very slow growing and really need the heat dialled up.

Spoke to Bruce at Aussiefish during the week and he is VERY keen on Golden Perch, reckons it has a huge future. He also mentioned that due to the cold winter, spawning will be a bit later this year for most of the stuff he carries.

They had an interesting setup with their sleepy cod tank at Tafe this week. 300mm from the top of the tank, they had a resting place for the fish. It was 2/3 the size of the tank, tied to the tank at a few places and shaped like a mini trampoline, with holes in it to allow water/food thru. Framework was simple poly with joins.

They love the warmer water and the warmest part of the tank is at the top. With something to rest on, they don't need to be expending energy swimming up to the top to stay warm, they just lie their like on a sunny beach.

The dept had applied for funding to conduct some extensive trials on fcr/ growth rate etc, but it has been knocked back. It is an interesting concept and perhaps worth a look at for our warm climate friends, who may wish to have some say,prawns in the same tank.

Jim far [auto pot man] has small sleepy cod with 2 heaters in each tank they just lie on the bottom and sleep. Not very interesting fish
