It started getting light out around 4:20AM this morning, longest day of the year! Haven't slept well in two days. We're done hogging the sun up here in the N hemisphere after today. We'll start giving some back to you guys!

Clear as a bell and low humidity, not too warm either.

Talking the weather over with a bunch of people lately and we are tending to agree thats it is raining again. Not to say that its drought breaking, while our dams are full (they never emptyied because we have got great springs) the people down stream still need masses more. If what we are getting now stops then Vic could be in trouble again floods not withstanding.

Some time around 14 years ago around here it started gettting drier with the last couple being exceptional. We used to say that it rained in Trentham for 9 months of the year and dripped off the trees for the other three. Thats when it wasn't snowing of course.

Which brings me to the inspiration of this post, its snowing. Not the dry, crisp, flluffy, lovely stuff you canadians and americans get but wet slushy stays snow only so long to float onto you and then melts to freeze you snow.

Plus its windy (snow is moving sideways) so I'm taking the oportunity to find all the draughts that I havn't sealed in the cottage.

Reminds me of my childhood.

Here in the mid section of the US we are experiencing everything from drought to floods, it just depends on where you are. Today, and for the rest of the week the prediction is for clear, hot, humid weather. Daytime highs in the 90's, night time lows in the 70's. The corn and beans will grow this next week. We have a chance of rain/thunderstorms the first of the new week.

I don't know where you get the impression we get soft fluffy dry snow here in the US. I've seen more wet, nasty slushy snows than I have dry ones. Usually you have to have very cold temps, and low humidity to produce dry snow. Here in Missouri we get humidity coming up out of the Gulf of Mexico and cold air out of Canada/the Artic. Net result, wet snows.

well, it's our first day for the season over 30*C, the relative humidity is 41%, and the Red Steer is running up the mountain beside us

This is our first fire for the season, the Rural Fire Brigade is out checking properties on the other side of the street from me. This fire will continue up the side of the mountain and burn through a good portion of the National Park (they probably lit it deliberately) :violent3:

As a precaution I've added tomorrow's top-up water to the system, so that it doesn't run out.

tonight there should be be nice views of our version of lava flows ;) At night when the mountain is on fire, the flames flow over the hills. :D

Fires on the mountain are pretty much ignored, unless they come in close to houses. We don't have the same fuel regimes as southern Australia, more grasses, less bracken etc. Our fires are fairly quick and painless ;)
