Mat - if you hd a test kit then you could monitor things a lot more closely and could psu it a bit further than you can without one. Looks to me that the biofilter is keepin gup fairly well with your dosing and it will only get better. On the basis of what you have said now - I'd give it 24 hours from when you took the water out for the last test and then continue dosing at a similar (maybe slightly lesser) rate to what you have previously.

Quote:
The idea was seeded in the mind of its developer one bitter cold winter day in 1960 in the Demilitarised Zone between North and South Korea. Dan Carlson, a young Minnesota recruit serving with the US Army motor pool, happened to see a young Korean mother deliberately crush the legs of her 4 year old child beneath the back wheel of a reversing 2 ton GMC truck. Tearfully, the woman explained in distraught and incoherent English that, with 2 more children starving at home, only by crippling her oldest boy could she beg enough food in the city to feed her entire family.

Talk about harsh!

That is a really good result Beeso. Have you added any more ammonia. Are you confused because the ammonia is the same, yet the nitrite has dropped and nitrate rissen?

Nothing to worry about there Beeso. What you should find is that as the nirosomonos increase, the ammonia will be converted to nitrite a little more quickly. You gotta remember also that using this method, a whole heap of ammonia is added in one hit. The bacteria will take a bit of time to process it. The fish would be producing ammonia progressivelly throughout the day - though probably more rapidly a certain time after being fed.

I'd keep up that same dose until the nitrate is at about 60 or so. You may find that the plants take off with their new supply of nitrate, in which case the nitrate may not rise as quickly because of plant use.

The key will be to continue dosing at a reasonable rate until you get your silver perch in so the bacteria are maintained. Do cut out the dosing a day or 2 before the SP arrive thoug.
