Hey all,

Am looking for ideas on constructing a temp. biofilter with the vision of it becoming somewhat permanant (due to time/financial constraints)

The reason I am asking for help is that I am constructing a new hothouse (all materials have been scrounged) here at my new house and want to move my trout from my indoor tank into a spare IBC that I have because as I have found they can raise the ammonia levels very quickly and I also want to provide them with a larger body of water to live in.

I dont have the money at the moment to establish new GB's( seedlings etc) to use as filters, and prob wont for a couple of months but I do have what I would think to be enough materials for a biofilter ( I might even run it seperate to my new AP system)

I DO have an established AP system but its at the old house but i dont know when it will be relocated.

I have enough tubs here with (washed) screenings..... I can get my hands on enough bacteria from my other system GB's for a kick start as well.

So........if anyone can provide suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Having said all that lol, I just want to get my trout into my IBC and filter the water with something that will bide me time enough to get the rest of my setup happening at my own leisure lol

BK - why not just put a container full of gravel over the top of the tank. Chucking a couple of seedlings in won't cost you anything - put weeds in if you want or some wheat, oats, grass seed - whatever.

dude, he's got 30 trout in a 3ft tank! a container on the top aint gonna do shite ;)

BK, i reckon if you want to make it semi permanent and moveable with a trolley then you cant go passed a blue 44 like i used in da old mans system.

Use the screenings you got and bulk up the rest of it with scrunched up shade cloth.

I got one for ya, nice length of 100mm pipe filled with all your aquarium gravel, plus gravel from your home system, plus your screenings.

screw cap both ends and fit PVC fitting on.

attach pump to one end, other end back to tank.

one bass assed home made cannister filter.
