Mathew, congratulations on the fry.
What State are you in? What month did the fry hatch? In a pond? What size pond?
Welcome to the forum. Do you have your system posted yet?
Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug,
I am in southern TX. I have been having fry hatch for the last 3 months (I think they started in May. They started out in an inground swimming pool, now they are in a 6' dia. tank (safe from the bass). The ones that are hatching out now are being eaten almost as fast as they are hatching.
My system is not yet posted, however, there are some comments concerning my system under general systems discusions "a swimming pool system"

I hope to have a system thread up here soon, I have been very busy lately. I will post pic.s at that time. My system has been all fish for a year, it is only now becoming AP.

Eaten by adult blue gill I take it. Looking forward to the posting of your system. Southern Texas...warm all year I would think. Not much like the frozen north. I picked blue gill because they can handle a cold spell.

Actually the largemouth bass do the biggest damage to the fry population. They are amazingly fast.

My temps have dropped into the mid 60's with no problems to the bass, blue gill, or the catt's. I don't suppose anyone else calls this cold though. I still swim with them at that temp, so I guess it's not too cold for me either.

MC, why do you think the bass are not doing well in your ponds? Water temp, food supply, DO, water quality, pond size?

In my tank they would have to be the only breed or they would eat the others. In a pond they suggest a ratio of feeder fish to bass to balance. Are you out of balance?

Just curious.

the grow more for the feed i give them. ive never seen a bass eat pellets, the bass chaise the other fish around. the bass do good for them seves i geuss, just not good for the system. no room for a fish that is not a team player. i think bluegill would do better without bass. i do not have a surplus of bluegill.
