The closest relative of the brown trout is the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). The brown trout's name (Salmo trutta) means salmon trout.

And the Rainbow Trout is an entirely freshwater fish... but it's very close relative is a sea fish migrating to spawn ...

The steelhead trout, a close relative to the rainbow, is the anadromous version. It lives in the Pacific ocean and migrates up into the streams of the west coast (US) to spawn

i thought they were all of salmanoid species...but as far as the goldies being raped, i just think ..from what i have found from fishing for em is that the goldies dont appear to be the same to em and that they might be a threat........ because the trout are terrertorial

Sorry just reading back on the post, i don't check for a couple of hours and i got alot of reading to catch up on  :D

The best temp for trout is a 10-12degrees celcius if you are growing them up, this allows there metabolism to be beneficial to there growth. Trout seem to die off in 21 degree water although many have said "mine survived in 24 degrees" as my work experience boss said "A human can survive a 54 degree day doesn't mean he will like to stay and live there".

So 10 to 12 degrees allows the heated water to provide a bit more movement with the trout meaning there muscles will grow and i have always believed that the hotter the water the faster the fish growth??

Well thats just what i though is best for trout although i may be wrong, actually best to get someone to double check that please  don't trust myself lol

All Salmonoid genus I think but different species (or is that family) lol

Rainbows do eat other fish when land locked ...ie lakes... maybe this is the behaviour replicated in dams/hatcheries......

Suppose as they're not free ranging, they wouldn't be exposed to a lot of insect feed

BK, i'd like to think that they'd survive at 22C with good DO, thats not saying that i'd like to have them at that temp unless it was out of my control! ;)

even fish like SP start going off food at the upper 3C of their temp limit.

The way i look at it, if HAVE to pump energy into the fishes habitat then its gonna be more cost effective to lower the temp by say 4C than raise it by8C.

besides, i really gotta find a use for those compressors lying around outside!
