You guys with Tandanus think they need a highly oxygenated system ...

Wondering if they'd fair ok in a stiller low flow type tank.... like duckweed tank?

Thinking of joining two 200ltr tubs together...one for duckweed and one for yabbies.... would siphon one of my beds into the yabbie tub and just let the flow equalize between the two.... overflow out from yabbie tub...

what do you reckon??

Obviously/probably couldn't put them in with the yabbies, which is a pity.
That was my first thought as I was thinking the yabbies would clean up any uneaten food etc which would be a bonus in a low flow setup...

don't think that the tandanus need overly O2 saturated water, nothing like what trout need anyway.

It all depends on the amount of fish ion the duckweed tank.

What the duckweed loves is a still surface, if you siphoned the tank to the BOTTOM of the duckweed / tandanus tank then you'd still have a good flow of oxygenated water through there while still maintaining relatively still surface.

So me and the bundaberg kid went for a drive today.................

60 rainbow trout later and i think that if we can keep them alive we'll be life long converts ;)

BK, you got any pics of your tank?

I stayed at simmo's just a tad to long, when i got back to the car the trout were visibly gulping for air  and i still had a 45min drive home  They seem ok in the pond (its pretty dark though) will check on them in the morning.

Have you counted your fish yet? Mine seem a small group for 30, but will try and count in the morning.

Well me and TimC got our trout today, only 6 but thats plenty enough room to allocate for growth. Ours have been growing 6 grams a day!!! the guy we got them off has been monitoring there growth! well thats a estimate not spot on. But if we feed them 2-3 times a day that makes on hell of a feed in summer lol :D

Mabey if we all get together we can have a big trout cook up and see whose is best, so right now it is:

Troutman, Steve, Earthbound, Bundabeg Kid and us all have trout anyone else want to take part in the challenge lol?

Hope your fish go well Steve, we hooked ours to a aerator in the car but they where in the bucket for at lease 40min all up while we put ice blocks in the tank to cool it down ah aha it was a funny sight.

good one nick.

The guy we got them off filled the bags with heaps of 100% O2, but 15 100grm trout per bag for 4 hrs was a little long  seem fine though!

Rupe, we got them at between 6" and 9" and around 100gms for $2 each!

VERY happy with the price.

Guy recons that the produce very little solid waste and have a very high FCR. The place was amazing they had a pond with 3kg monsters man the comotion when some feed was chucked in.

I may even hook up another tank (hello spa!) and go back nect week end for some for myself! I'd put them in the main tank, but i think the tandanus would dissapear :(

Yep, I've seen Rainbows feeding.... If you've ever been to "Rainbow Springs" in NZ.... the trout actually swim up this race (you can view them side on through glass) into the main feeding area when they open the gate.

Obviously over the years they've grown to know when it's food time...

Then the pallets are thrown onto this wide shallow ledge... fish throw themselves onto it and the food in a frenzy...

The colour show is amazing.

We got them about 7-8cm in size and about $3 each, but next year we are in line for 100 mabey 200 and i think there $1.20 or $1.50 each.

Tim will probably post some pictures. We also got some native fish pellets for them and boy do they eat alot! Steve be prepared to buy and spend allot to keep them happy :D

nick, as long as they put most of it on as fish weight even $4 /kg is worth it! LOL

BK we gonna have to get 20kg bags............... ;)

Ok, so this is the plan.............do really well at keeping trout then preach to people in the cooler states to start with silvers until they get the hang of AP and convert over to rainbows :)
