just wondering if redfin would be suitibale to use in melbourne. looking at running a 1000 litre tank.

I was interested in redfin too. But legislation in NSW says no.

Have you seen the 9 page thread about them in this forum? Seems like they can be tricky to feed in an economical/efficient way.

Im on a work placement in Switzerland in a RAS where we raise redfin (eurasian perch) and pikeperch aka zander.

The problem in Australia is that they're considered a pest. So the only way to get them, as far as I know, is to catch them in the rivers and lakes. And then they're hard to convert to pellets.

Maybe there are ways to get them taking pellets or other suitable feed. If so, they would be great in Melbourne.

Yes... aside from the challenges mentioned above, that was a deal breaker for me in Northern NSW.

But the OP is in Melbourne where they may have a more relaxed attitude. Regardless, I'm suggesting silver perch.

But iirc, you're a wizard with trout so you may be able to give a different perspective..
