The Mount Compass Trout Farm will only give you a good deal if you buy 100.

Hi All, I live on the Eyre peninsula. Haven't started my system yet. Would love to have it up and running supplying me with nice veggies. Not so worried about the fish. They would be a bonus if i can keep them alive. Any you guys over this way are welcome to call in and get me started. LOL.

If you are not worried about the fish, use goldies they are much more tolerant of abuse.

Hi All, I have plenty of limestone gravel or granite will either do as the gravel base for the plants.

probably the granite by preference as it is more stable than limestone

i agree.

while i advocate calcium carbonate addition to AP systems i have the feeling that it may provide too high a PH at the root zone if used as the planting medium

Hi EVERYBODY! I am located 90km north of Adelaide(Barossa Valley).
We have built a duck pond and I was trying to work out filtration/pumps etc. when I come across AP and the more I did read about it the more I liked it. I was always dedicated to gardening (must be in the genes my father was a farmer/gardener). When we lived in Adelaide we had a small garden and one weekend I was transplanting lettuces, when my wife asked me:" Have you counted how many lettuces you are planting"? I said "no". And then I started counting - 284. :o
Anyhow the duck pond has water in it ( not full yet) and the ducks are using it. I still have to modify the outlet. The GB is not ready yet - and I wonder how the system will perform. I guess I'll have to watch when we get heavy rain because there is no cover over pond or GB. Last week I checked the temp in the pond - we had -4 o/n and the water was 4C near the surface at 7:00. When the system is working I guess I can keep the water temp at about 11 or 12 C (without heating).
I'll post some pics - when I get some help.

Hi Heka, welcome.... you aiming to just have ducks or fish or both in the pond.....

Don't think anyone has tried a variation of AP based on ducks alone.....

How about integrated ducks, fish and rice, a la "The Power of Duck" by Furuno?

hey rup many years ago a form of AP was to have the roosting chickens and ducks poop into to the water to increase bio dynamic exchange, fish would clean the water and the over flow would fert the garden down the line.

Yep, age old technique C1... surprised nobody has taken it up as an alternative idea... thought maybe GaryD might have seen as he's into the "integrated" food production concept. :D
