I think with those temps which are ideal for trout you could run a standard aquaponics system with brasicas and leafy veg, which are also somewhat less demanding in terms of light quality and intensity, under LEDs.

If you want to grow tomatoes and other summer veg though, it might be better to do it in a seperate space with higher temperatures and natural sunlight. You could have a filter in your aquaponics system that collects the sediments, and save the sediment laden water in bottles and use this to water plants in the summer, or to run a seperate hydroponics system in the summer or in a warmer sunny part of your home. I guess it does mean carrying water up out of the basement though.

Basically, I wouldn't even try to grow tomatoes in those cool humid conditions with LED lights. It is very likey to be disappointing.

its not just nitrates that come from the feed to plant ratio, its all the other nutrients as well, if you lower your stocking you will also have to reduce the amount you grow and the Nitrate level you have is far to high for your requirements.

Good catch Andreas - I meant to mention this.

To the OP - I think the fish will work out fine but there are lots of ways to get your nutrients or add missing nutrients so if you decide fish aren't going to work, try something else. I see we have some posts about mealworm frass to run a system and we've had vermiponics people in the past as well - It won't be AP but whatever works :thumbright: .

Thanks indeed for all the advice you kindly gave me.
It is great to be part of such a helpful community.
I'll follow the suggestions, set up my system, and see what happens.
I will move to the "members system", creat a thread and document my experience there.
Thanks again!
