Hi everyone, could someone please inform me on how to properly acclimatise fish into an AP system? Does it matter if it's a mature system or a new one?

What matters is if it's cycled. If it's not cycle I recommend the fishless cycle.

For aclimating fish I recommend the drip method.

- put the fish in clean container with bag water. Often when you get fingerlings the bag is big enough fit in a bucket.
- add an air Stone. If you don't have a air valve then tie a granny knot and sinch down till you have a gentle airation. You don't want to boil the fish.
- take a section of air tubing long enough to go from your fish tank to to your container. Start a siphon then and tie a knot (you can use an air line valve if you have one instead). Tighten the knot or valve until you get a few drips a second.
- place the drip line into your container of fish and walk away.
- once the water volume doubles, dump half the water and wait for it to double again.
- now gently net the fish and release them into your tank.
-dump container of water in your garden and top up your fish tank.

May take 2 to 4 hours.

Thanks I really appreciate you taking the time to write the steps out. I will do a fish less cycle on my 2nd covid19 McGyver system. One more detail, I am transferring 7-8 tilapias from an older system. They weigh in between 1/4-1/2 lbs. I presume that it would be okay to perform the steps you outlined with them in a bucket once cycled?
