Hi everyone,

As I can’t get any trout this season I decided to dismantle and move my chop flip system as we are getting some 5000 gal water tanks in the next month or so in the position I have used in my IBC system.

I have now added a full IBC as the fish tank with slo

And converted the original fish tank to the sump.
I will be adding some more grow beds when time and finances permit.

Chooks seems to be interested in what’s happening.

I have built a radial flow settler/filter from the 50mm SLO to a 25mm radial flow also with 25mm outlet to the sump, but it seems to overflow, instead of going out the output of the RFF.

You can see the makings of the rff in the picture above.

Could this be related the the height drop from the SLO / volume of water? Even with the pump dialed right back it still overflows the filter ‘bucket’ it’s a 20L pail.

The drop from the outlet to the pail would be about 60cm roughly.

Or possibly the outlet is to high in the bucket? 2-3 cm from the top.

Any thoughts suggestions or comments always welcome.

You have the outlet hole too high. You want the outlet about 3 inches from the top of the bucket. If you are using an elbow on the outlet you need to take that length into consideration so it's within 2 or 3 inches of the top of the bucket.

I will post a picture of mine in minute.

Original I had a SLO into my sump. I spliced in this guy. Hind sight being what it is, I would have used a container that was large enough for me to use the 1.5 inch pipes. Those reducers can clog and the 1 inch pipes don't have as much flow as I would like. I have a large pump in my system and while I haven't over flowed anything, I have come close a time or two.

The bucket does well though. It catches the large debris. My wife over feeds the fish and I wanted something easier to clean than my sump tank. ImageImage
