Missed my ebay green house action last night, was too busy in the Emergency department of royal melbourne...... now i know why people like morphine soo much Was a little dissapointed with the GF, she refused to leave her blackberry fone with me.......would have spent the whole night reading posts on her fone LOL

To save the questions: just had EXTREME (and i don't use this word lightly) abdominal pain. 4 xrays, a blood test, urne test, and an overnight stay later and apparently there is nothing wrong with me oh well!

well, physically anyways

sounds like me when I had gall stones. Indian for dinner and then midnight, extreme pain and off to hospital. Morphine is fantastic.... ... when you are in pain.

The day before yesterday I found the remains of 2 mangled fish. Yesterday I found bits of a 3rd outside the greenhouse. I can only see 3 survivors. There may be more - I have given the fish lots of hiding places... they could be hiding. I suspect cats, or maybe birds.

Steve: I hope you are keeping an eye on it. That is a bit of a worry!

Aeldric, only have a shoebox size open to the outside, and its straight into water, so i'm thinking its pretty cat proof. Plus there is diligent charlie the dog

I have heard that birds can be ruthless, but once again, its almost completely covered, and the green house is so small there would be no where for them to fly if they got inside.

How many did you start with?

I started with 25. There was a cat-sized opening in the greenhouse where I failed to do up the zip properly. I won't be doing that again

that is quite some loss!

We'll see..... I don't really know how many I lost. All I know is that I've only seen three. I'm busy this weekend, but next weekend I will see if I can do a Fish Census

Hi guys,
just bought a greenhouse from Bunnings - 2.4 by 1.7 by 2.8 metres. It cost $158. I'm actually using it to grow out seedlings but maybe I'll use it to cover up fish pond in winter if I'm up to that stage then. Ive been banned from Bunnings by my poor husband so there'll be plenty of explaining to do when he sees a wopping great greenhouse on the front porch when he comes homes.
Aeldric, just wondering how you're going with your breeding research. Are you prepared to inject the females if need be? I'm totally up for it having worked briefly as a vet nurse and given injections before ( but it was years ago). I'm just wondering where would we source the hormones and what would be the best way to learn how to do this? i dont see many commercial places being interested in teaching customers how to breed their own stock. A video tutorial would be excellent, then the last resort i guess would be slides with appropriate literature. Poor fish though, I hate the thought of initial experimentation before becoming adequately profficient.
This is the next big step in aquaponics, When we can do this we are free from the perepetual consumer cycle. wouldnt it be great if we could find someone in each state who would be prepared to give us training in these techniques? There must be aquarium folk who do special breeding stuff like this. I would really be prepared to pay good money for such a training event. I have a friend who breeds and sells ornamentals in Sydney so will ask him to see if he can find out any thing more.
Steve, you mentioned somewhere a good website on breeding but I cant find where I read that. Could you reply with links agin or direct me to the right place in the forum? That would be great.
