The owner is pretty wrapped... This is what many people want, they don't want to have to muck around with trying to work it all out themselves. I already have two other people that want systems, this one has allowed all the bugs to be ironed out, so now it full steam ahead... :)

Still got to work out the final bottom line as yet, there are a lot of variables.. A large system like that one with 5 beds multiple drain tanks fingerling tank etc, including absolutely everything, right down to fish, feed, hydroton, installation, backup air supply, plants, etc, etc, basically a whole working system in place with mature water added and all.. Around the 7-8 grand mark..

For a basic 4 bed system system supply only, no hydroton, but everything else thats needed, beds, stands, tanks, pipework, fittings, air supply, pumps, etc, etc, between 4 and 5 thousand..

This is all pretty ball park at the moment.. I have to go back through and check figures..

those figures are cheaper than some of the stuff I have looked at - heck, IF the grants we are trying for come through in 2008 you could fly up here and install a system for us - that system looks bloody fantastic - down right sexy!

I still have to try and work out things like pay off times for the system. I was trying to find info online about how much your average family spends on veggies each week... Must keep searching..

And a lot of the other "commercial" kits/systems seem to be adations of hydro channels or pvc pipe.... the rest seem to rely on attached bio-filters or some sort of solids removal system...... and they're around the $4-5000 mark and probably unproven....

Murrays new site has a "growbed" kit installation that he's currently installing, got no idea what price Murrays kit is but the tanks, beds etc are quoted at about the same price..... excluding instyallation and consultancy.

Other than that the only other ones I've heard of are the various "commercial" "in developement" type prototype systems.

Joel,

it would be interesting to compare the payback period of your system with that of a solar hot water system or rainwater tank systems, given the current interest in energy saving and waterwise systems being discounted / promoted by various government initiatives.

I bet I know which one would offer the fastest payback!

Thanks Creative,

As I understand it, breakeven point, IRR and payback period are different ways of expressing closely related but different concepts in accountancy my friend!

But maybe for now lets endeavour to keep this thread on track .. it is about Joels excellent Turnkey system (I am sorry that I diverged).

Maybe we can start an "accounting" thread elsewhere but at the moment let us try to help Joel gather some data.
