fish transport

after my recent double dosing and fatal demise of 50+ goldfish, I now have it all running fine again and until summer is over I need fish in there again.

With an insulated canopy on my ute could I carry 50+ goldfish in lge buckets with lids, on a 800k drive?

Would I need air? if so how do I do that?

Would goldies & trout live together over winter? or what other breeds would cohabitate?

I took 50 silvers from the Riverland to my old place (Roughly same distance) in a 100Litres of water I had a Aqua one battery powered air pump , just takes D cell batteries , used energizer batteries changed them half way (probably didn't need to) just to make sure they didn't go flat.

Fish got here fine

When I cart fish now I use a 300 watt inverter plugged into cig lighter and a 10 watt air pump that really belts out the air

4mm irrigation tube and tee pieces and airstones from the aquarium shop

Cold water holds more oxygen than warm water so I would use eskies / insulation

Maybe take ice in a esky and drop a bit in every hour

Goldies would be fine with Trout until the Trout eat them (Trout grow fast)

Can you find one of those big fat marine buoys that wash up on the beaches (ive got three) , laying on their side with a small access door cut out they would be terrific for carting fish , probably hold 250 Litres , a big tie handle each end.

picking these goldies up next week, there has always been algae growth in FT (1000L round) The top of tank is half permanently covered and the other half has a shade cloth lid, I suspect this allows sunlight in and helps increase algae growth,

so options...
add catfish...I believe they enjoy algae
cover up the shade cloth. ....does daylight/nighttime affect fish growth or behaviour?

Usually a half covered setup will eventually get through the algae stage and be OK unless there is an excess of phosphorus added. If for some reason the algae never totally clears out then I would add cover to the tank to reduce or eliminate the algae growth because it's just taking nutrients from your AP garden plants. Algae also plugs any filters faster and can clog the grow beds up a bit as well.

Most shade cloth doesn't totally block the light so if you just increase the area covered that might be enough. The fish I've had seem to do OK with very little light but I've noticed that it's tougher for them to see the sides of tanks (black colored tanks especially) and when you uncover the tank they may spook with the additional light.

Had thought of that and have family there as well. just put in a bag and the lil fishees will float anywhere, granted they may have a rough trip.

Just got my air pump that takes batteries and aux 12V power supply, that will keep em alive

yee gawds and BIG fishes, picked up 17 plain old comet fish yesterday they average 12cm body length! mostly the dark brown but I dont want them for beauty.
They travelled well big plastic bag inside 80L esky with Aqua one battery powered air pump asa Terra suggested but mine used either car power or batteries. Letting them sleep tonight in the utes canopy *00+K is a long distance to be bouncing around but they all look fine.
Would they/ do they eat trout fingerlings? I am tempted to try other fish.

I'm not sure what they would eat Tonzz :dontknow:

. I don't think other fish are a major part of their diet but they are omnivorous and there's no reason they couldn't eat the trout if they are small enough.
