I'm not to sure how long Polystyrene last, I painted mine with a good coat of water based paint top & bottom. This has helped to stop the UV affects on the surface & has sealed the bottom from the fish/Yabby's from chewing it. The one board I have in the DWC has been in there for 3 years & is still in good condition.

Hello!

Oh thats good to know you can paint the poly. I just assumed the paint wouldn't be good for the fish. Thanks for the picture too, its great to see peoples set up's.

there are threads on alternatives to polystyrene....
and you can use something rigid and go with an air gap...
