I spray my plants when they need trace elements (or fertiliser). That way, almost all of it gets on the leaves.

If you're looking for a new sump you may want to consider looking at farm stores and stock tanks. If you're not then you might still use the one you have by tying a strap or cord across the middle from one long side to the other. A strap around the outside might also work. My guess is the sun made the plastic soft and flexible enough that this happened but it may just have been the weight of the water. Kind of surprised that the lid didn't stop this from happening

The problem of it all is not the size or material of the container that acts as the sump. The main issue is that we are losing power here in Florida with all of these sporadic thunderstorms resulting in the sump pump to turn off and not coming back on. The sump is the lowest point in the system. So when the power shuts off the pump in the tank keeps pumping all of the water into the beds and for some reason doesn't shut off like the sump pump does. Keep in mind that i have a float switch connected to the sump pump because it pumps more water than water coming in( which is want i want, due to the way i ignorantly put this system together). My next option is to invest in a Uninterrupted Power Supply which i can store in the garage. I am also going to install a different float switch. One that is more reliable.

On another note, all of the fish were still alive when i got home. scared to death the little things were

I managed to fill the tank back up and treat the water in a matter of hours.
Gave the fish a pinch and salted my sump again. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Hey Clasta, look seriously at going for a SLO type overflow if you can.
It will at least protect you from this sort of issue.

Those fish are tough little critters.

Try some of the rubbermaid stuff that you cane get at Lowes etc in the states.
I think a lot of it is UV stable, and it comes in some decent sizes.
Other option is to go for a 44 Gallon blue drum - upright or on side.

Note you have filters over your intake. You will need to get rid of those.
They just clog up and you want solids from the fish tank being pumped across to the beds.
