Hi Richard, The cover you can see is translucent alsynite (smokey) sheeting that blocks most the sun from above. I think I need to make some shade cloth 'curtains' to hang around it.

Just thought that instead of adding a shade cloth curtain, in spring/summer I'll just grow clilmbing beans around the edge...

My husband and I are thinking of moving to Hobart. I hear there are restrictions on what fish are allowed to be kept. Could someone let me know what types of fish are allowed, their costs and the cost of permits.

Hi.. found the information about fish in hobart elsewhere the forum.. looks like you can't keep anything really other than trout and it is pretty expensive...v.disappointing... ctp

Hi there,
Just wondering if TasV had any joy on the blackfish front? I'm planning on kicking off on an IBC/blue barrel system down south soon.

I'll start in on goldfish, and I'd like to do trout, but it looks like a moderately painful process to go that way (but I will still try).

I am also very interested how you got on with the blackfish, i am setting up a 4 IBC system in my backyard in launceston at the moment and am going to try my hardest to keep trout over summer with some form of evaporative tower cooler but also am going to try breeding and keeping blackfish. I will also dabble my hand and brown trout and atlantic salmon. (i work at a hatchery)

on temperature control - from home brewing experience.

You could use an stc-1000 temperature controller and pump the water through a coil of copper piping placed inside a small bar fridge to cool the water to whatever temperature you want via the STC-1000 if the temperature was above 20 degrees the stc-1000 could pump the water into the fridge via two holes drilled into an old bar fridge and then flowing through a coil of copper pipe and cool the water. Once the temperature reaches your preset cool temperature the pump turns off until the next temperature spike.
the fridge is better to stay on as the power drain is more if it is turned off and on all the time.

Could bury some copper pipe in the ground and then pump it via an STC-1000 temperature controller connected to a pump.

Copper pipe will turn your fish green :support: Stainless Steel tubing is what you need and you'll still struggle to drop the water temperature.
