If anyone living in Darwin can give me advice on were to buy uniseals for a reasonable price

also best place to get plumbing fittings, blue barrels 220 litre ones

i would get ibc but living in apartment place. I only have rooms for a few blue barrel setups

There must be a hydroponic shop in town ask them of people doing aquaponics then get advice from them.
Type in northern Territory in search bar top right corner, some is a few years old but could be helpful.

There is a post right below yours ...or was about Darwin or something.

the place were they said can get barrels , has gone outta business and a lot the places have changed.

i went to some nursery had some pumps and stuff but way overpriced but no uniseals or pipe

same sort of issue for many in rural areas - for that sort of issue try the internet.
Most things can be got pretty easily just got to weigh up the postage issue and maybe be smart about combining things. A lot of hydroponics stuff is available online.

Uniseals are not particularly cheap in Australia and not widely available.
If you need a lot then look at getting them from US - you need a few to make the postage worthwhile.
else Rob Bob is your best bet.

You can also use water tank / bulkhead connectors depending on what you are using for.

For many things Bunnings is probably an option as their mark up is likely to be less on common things and probably OK against item + postage. Also try a bulk irrigation supplier. (but neither will have uniseals).

There are some OK bulk irrigation suppliers.
Sure some from east coast and/or Brisbane will be low cost for bulk purchase.
Creative Pumps in Adelaide and Perth Irrigation for example both post at reasonable rates, particularly for larger orders.
Plus eBay is an obvious good option for many things.

do you know if i can use a water tank fitting on a round tub or does it have to be on flat surface.

also what size pump would you use for a couple of barrels and round tub. I think the system will be about 500-600 litres. Im not sure how many times to turn over the pond with fish.

Im dont have the spare cash to buy bulk of uniseals that i wont use. If i can use tank fittings on barrels and round tub. i had a look at bunnings and their is some options.

The only problem is the pump i have at the moment is too big for the system and trying to decide on what smaller pump to get means have to find the right one and source the right size hose for it.

So once i know what size pump to get then i can choose the hose to get.

the smaller ones will be OK. There is a bit of give in the blue barrels.
I have used 20mm and 25mm on the side of a blue barrel no problems.

Bunnings have bulkhead connectors as "tank access outlet" in 15, 20 and 25mm sizes.
There is a mismatch in their pricing with these $3.50-$5.50 then big jump to next sizes.
Not sure if Bunnings in Darwin is same as online
(same prices here in Perth, they also put them in a different part of the store to irrigation).

depending on your setup you can also come out of the top/base.

i have round tub that holds between 120-150 litres of water depending on high the water is. With all the rain atm its 150 litres.

Im thinking of buying two blue barrels and having one as a filter and one as fish tank.

Have you used a tank fitting on a round tub?

it depends on the curvature and the material.

IBC / blue barrel thickness is fine with a 15-25mm diameter as you get a fairly flush seal with the rubber washer/seal.

many larger rainfall tank are also no problem because the contact area is pretty flat.
But a thick small diameter tank or a corrugated tank might be an issue.

you can get curved rubber flanges to suit but they get a bit pricey.
Guess some might use some silicone and see how it goes but I always find it leaks.

At top of tank/.barrel as an overflow etc it is no problem since there is not so much water pressure,
But need to be more careful at the bottom.

i have had a tough time getting blue barrels and also not having a ute to fit them in,

They seem to sell out fast when available.

I think i will have to order some uniseals from rob on backyards youtube



I have a pump to use but will have to buy those and see were its way too big for the setup or not.

I have ordered uniseals from here. Prices don't seem too bad.

im going with a mate to source some barrels tom hopefully and new fish farm i have found local.

I have never been their so hopefully it will be good and different to the 4 pet stores that have all the same thing. I missed out on pet fish sale in these stores, So their wasnt much left.

Im hopong to get some rainbow fish and some plants.

So fingers crossed will have barrels , fish, and some plants tom.

Then all i will need is all the plumbing supplies and a pum.p

I looked at fish farm but the guy wasn't home. So had look at his tanks and plants. Its a good setup.

So hopefully tom get to see more.

He was at the airport getting more fish.

Im hoping he got some more rainbow fish and also he had some cool plants their.
