Troutman has been breeding silver for many years, and Carl, a guy I employed for a couple of years also bred silvers in a few different places over the years. There have also been a many discussions on here about it over the years. Those in the know, with aquaculture qualifications and years of professional experience breeding silvers say it just doesn't happen in tanks, and that backyarders have no chance of doing it themselves even with HCG. After many hours sitting listening to Carl's stories about failed breeding attempts, with all the fancy equipment , sitting up night after night, monitoring.. Well yes, it just isn't worth wasting any thought over.

lol "Carls failed breeding attempts" should have perhaps read "Carl's failed FISH breeding attempts." :)

Sounds challenging, but so was grade 4 and now look where that's gotten me.

Thanks for the responses. Definitely an enjoyable thread to read.

Mine got me quite excited by laying eggs and you could see the little ones inside moving. Two days later they hatched out and got me more excited but two days after that I couldn't find a live one so the excitement didn't last for long. The next year they didn't lay any eggs and since then I have lost them all so that was that. I am posting a picture of the eggs before they hatched.

The only eggs I have seen was in the belly of one I ate last week.
I fried them tempura style. Lovely.
