I don't mean seeding's grown in soil either, we're talk mature plants.

The 4 plants in question being 2 x Basil plants and 2 x Chili plants, both are 1 year old and do quiet well in the soil ... I understand your probably thinking, why move them then? I need to dig up the area in which they currently occupy, so they need moving and with a small backyard my options are limited - in steps the Aquaponics grow bed, the grow bed has got the room for 4 mature plants but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not?

Naaa, don't do it, not worth bothering, stick new plants in the AP system....

Yep makes sense.

One good way to get new plants is to take some cuttings off the mature plants and let them root in the AP. Works best if they aren't in full sun at first.

Either way will work. Just wash roots and keep seasol up to them or something similar.

I had a good size pepper plant that I moved from my garden to the AP last year since I didn't want to wait for a new plant to grow. It produced quite a few peppers after I moved it before it died (my greenhouse wasn't finished yet so eventually it got too cold for it)

Interesting a couple of you have had success re-planting mature plants, not saying I will just interesting.

I've had good success transplanting pepper plants. I just grab the stem and rip it out of the ground. Then I trim it to 4-5 inches tall, no leaves. Rinse and plant into a growbed. The remaining root mass has enough energy to push new roots and new green growth.

We recently split the trunks of a banana tree in the AP and replanted the 2 biggest trunks in different places. Both are now doing well with new leaves and pups appearing and producing leaves too. They are about 2m tall with trunks about as thick as my legs- very large and heavy. We have also moved mature rhubarb and asparagas crowns successfully from soil to AP.
