Fish jail work program -- Warden (you) -- you do your job, you'll get your squres and all will be good. You give me any problems, it is straight to chair for some nice Thai cuisine!

after yesterday's storm, eyes are being opened to the "What if" and it was a "we'll take it under consideration" type momment as opposed to the "NO!" previously given.....

Picture update time, the fish side has water moving about at last,it’s not quite finished but I have to go to Laos for a few days so it’s running with a splash of ammonia just to get things started.
First pic is the layout, four fish tanks 500litres each, one RFS,one bottle cap up flow, one 400litre MT tank and a 200litre MT tank that for the life of me I can’t find media to use it as a mbbr filter. Middle pic is the top of the RFS,the white cone fitted to the outlet is actually a light shade,as soon as I saw it I new it had a better purpose, bottom pic is the sight tube between the RFS and stage one MT.

The top pic is my bottle cap static up flow filter,I love this filter it works so well, this time I am only using one and it’s filled maybe 60%/70% full of caps, second pic is my trickle tower, this time the top layer is full of bottle caps, second layer full of bio balls bottom layer full of oyster shells. Every line has a way of being diverted so I can isolate either side at any time should I need to,third pic is the return line to the sump from the pump, normally this would be closed but as the plant side is isolated I am bleeding off the excess back to the sump.

A new addition this time is the PH controller,I still need to work out the best posiition for the outlet from the dosing pump as my first and second trail have not been to great. The first one I had the end of the outlet pipe in the water, the dosing pump switched on and when the set PH was achieved it switched off,but a syphon had been started and I dosed half a gallon of hydrochloric acid..hmmmmmmmm that certainly dropped the PH. Middle pic is a view in the top of stage one MT tank with its internal airlift and the last one is my little work area I am slowly sorting out.

The last three, shade cloth to protect from direct sun at specific times and a view of the fish system from the other side, work outstanding for when I get back is to install and plumb the blower, nets for the fish tanks and then stock the tanks. Wednesday sees me back home so I can crack on with it,as I am looking forward to getting the troughs running, first job will be a flood and drain seedling bench so I can start everything as I prepare the troughs, which the two existing shouldn’t take long at all.

Rob,what with one thing and another I have been so busy and seem to have forgot the forum a bit, anyway update time as of the 2nd November, these picture are not in any order but it shows where we are at.
The original troughs have had new liners, insulation and floats, the second one is still going to get a coat of paint,I have found having them reflective white helps with temp control and reflects a little back into the green house.
Tomatos are a F1 hybrid I brought back from the uk with me,salad is Grand Rapids which is the staple lettuce here in Thailand, tough,so ideal for the first crop.

I am going to have a small tube system for the strawberries first shot shows the frame they will eventually sit on,the other two are the third trough, steel construction this time concreted into the ground. Boards are going to be cement fiber boards,12 x 1 x 6m,sorry for the mix in metric imperial.,they are used here as decking boards as I would have to sell the wife to the gipsies to afford wood.

Stage 1 MT tank, lots of fish and just a shot through my rapidly shrinking fish house.
Plans for this week are to run power into the greenhouse for the couple of small pumps I want to run,see if I can get the boards delivered for trough three, which means I can level the ground at the rear and sides ready for concreting, then there is the small greenhouse to the rear that will be for the baby plants.

pretty awesome Andy. You've made a lot of progress since the last update. Glad to see the system up and running again. I love the pics from inside the greenhouse... your erection feels so much bigger from the inside than it looked from the outside. You just didn't get the perspective of those massive troughs from the previous pictures. It looks like you already have some pretty good sized fish, picked them up older to be able to breed them? Or just grow them out from there?

Hopefully now that the system is up and running and starting to produce food again the wife might take it easy on you for spending the money on the upgrade! =)
