Think the one purrsikat was talking about is similar to this one…

AquaBuoy® Animation

or this one .....

Quote:
In the United States, the Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative is funding the building of a commercial wave-power park at Reedsport, Oregon. The project will utilize the PowerBuoy® technology which consists of modular, ocean-going buoys ....

RupertofOZ, that does look a lot like the one that was shown on Catalyst. I really like that idea, becuase it's designed to be practically invisible (the one that I saw was completely submerged) & also without anything on/in it that can rust, or cause damage to the local aquatic environment from continual movement & use. Also, during periods of low power consumption, the energy would be diverted to producing desal water in a self contained sort of situation (meaning that the power isn't just pumped to a desal plant).. I really thought it very good, compared with some of the other designs I've seen.

(One issue only with this is: the reduction of wave power that reaches the shorelines.. like with wind, whatever you take out of the water/wind stream will be less water/wind power somewhere else, which can potentially affect ecosystems very significantly. Too many in one place & it might end up destroying another ecosystem/micro-system somewhere else. But this can be mitigated if looked at in a wholistic way.)
