Aquaponics is something I have looked at for many years. I just never took the time to make it happen. So in December I went into the hospital for emergency heart surgery and while I laid in the bed for recovery I thought about all the things I wanted to do but didn't. So when I got home and fully recovered I built a system. Kind of a cross between a hydroponics and an aquaponics. It worked ok but not great. So I just recently rebuilt the system to a more common media bed setup. So now I have a blue drum cut in half and filled with pea gravel for a media bed and a white drum for the fish tank. everything is covered with fence and pallet boards. I use a boat 800 gph bilge pump controlled by an arduino to flood the bed. This all runs on a car battery connected to a trickle charger. I will eventually add a solar panel and make the whole thing freestanding. I'll post pics when I figure out how to shrink the file size.

Welcome. Your build sounds like a good start. For pic's I use a free app called Greenshot. It is a screen capture program. When you're viewing your pic onscreen, you can hit PrintScreen and drag a box around the photo. It shows the # of pixels as you drag, so you can stay within the 900 pixel max, save it and upload to the forum.

here is my setup, I got to hung up on trying to change the image by file size (apparently all the software wants to do it by pixels).

I went lower than the requirement.

The water looks dark in the pic but it is clear. I have wild caught catfish and perch.
