I'm based near Castlemaine in Victoria, Australia, and LOVE the idea of creating a hydroponics set-up at home. But before I get too excited about this hare-brained activity, I'm a little worried about the temperature fluctuations where I live mean that it's not suited to horticulture, or that the fish suited to these conditions aren't good eating?

My location gets pretty cold in Winter (heavy frosts are common, but no snow), and then extremely hot and dry in Summer... is simple insulation and/or digging pits for sumps enough to keep fish happy...?

Is there a link somewhere in the forum that provides advice on this?

Or anyone else located in central Victoria / Goldfields area?

Trying to compare the pros and cons of a hydroponic set-up in my area v's a wicking bed system.

Thanks!!

My bad... I meant aquaponics, not hydroponics! Argh - new terminology.

If anyone can assist with issues / links etc re setting up an aquaponics system in an area with temp fluctuations of sub zero to +40deg Celsius that would be fantastic.

Thanks!
