Excellent description I do believe I've got it. If I can I ask a couple more questions. What is the PVC diameter of 1? What is the flow of the siphoned water compared to 2" Are both outflow pipes 40mm? Indeed since my tank is nearly two meters underground I don't get much siphon effect where my RFF sits. In fact my sump isn't as deep as my fish tank. The lack of head is why I employ an air lift pump to get water off the bottom.
This really helps me PLJ. thank you

Boss, the syphon pipe over the tank wall is 40mm PVC. I'm hoping it will still prove sufficient once the sixth GB on that distribution line is connected, otherwise I'll need to upgrade it to 50mm.
The tank outlet is a standard 50mm one with 40mm drain pipe feeding it inside the tank and 50mm outside, which is quickly distributed to 2 x 40mm pipes as described for 2. in my last post.

I kind of figured the through the wall pipe was larger diameter. Thank you for the clarification

I have a feeling that watercress has a liking for aquaponics!

Two large GBs in there somewhere, with brahmi, leeks and celery all trying hard to survive the watercress onslaught.

Who knew? I've never seen it overflow the banks of our little river. Isn't Watercress a delicacy in fine restaurants? I can barely get Duckweed to grow in our outdoor pond :dontknow: Four hailstorms in one season will do that I guess. :shifty: Sorry if my text is disjointed, I woke with pain again :support:

I cleared what has turned out to be a very profitable growbed of watercress this morning because cabbage moths have made a mess of much of the cress. I don't recall having a problem with cabbage moths ever before, in any type of garden, but just recently they overthrew the cabbage white butterflies and set up shop!

The size of some of the watercress surprised me, with individual stalks being up to 40mm in diameter.

Wowsa, I'd not seen it get big like that either. Did you sell it at market or to restaurants?

I've been selling it to a gourmet food shop and through my weekly farmers market stall. Additionally, an agent has been on-selling my watercress to a few restaurants, one of which also buys my rainbow trout.

Sweet, so your AP is working well and you can count on having produce to sell to local markets. That sounds like a dream system. How many trout did you raise this season?

I raised more trout than I have in previous years, Brian - 526 rainbows and 12 brown trout. I lost 3 or 4 browns to 'misadventure' in the first few weeks of the season and haven't seen one since. I thought that I would have caught one or two by now but I still have 190 or so trout left to harvest so there is still hope of me eating my first brown trout this season.

Very cool. I'm still in shock as to the quantity of fish you have, wow!
