the pump is a rio1100 i think 350gph, i believe im wrong about 1/4 i think its 3/4 standard hose size. the opening on the pump is a lil smaller i have to force the garden hose over it. the rest of the lines are clean its just this one prolly cause of all the crud goin up through it. maby i would be better off getting some poly line i only used garden hose cause it was free.

Hey RB:
I'm using two pumps each at 340 gph running through two sets of 3/4" rubber hose to garden hose; the rubber hose is press fit into the garden hose. They clog enough in a week to cause the siphons to not kick in. I pull the hoses apart and blow air through the garden hose and squeeze up and down the rubber hose to loosen the gunk, then it works like new. The next version will either use PVC with a larger diameter or have some valves to force all the flow through one side at a time to blow out the gunk. Try pinching all along the hose to get the gunk out from time to time. HTH!

I have found that putting a piece of sponge in the pipe and turning the water on cleans the pipe out nicely. no more 1/2 inch (25mm) for me. clogs way too quickly.

Thank you very much for the motivation to do it alone. I bought a commercial system on tv and though I am excited about plain growth etc, I still need to contact them for fertilizer seedlings etc.

I hope you forgive me if my first system will look like yours but I have to start from somewhere.

I have over 100 acres of land but I love this since I can start in my bedroom then my garage then my yard then who knows.

My question is about strawberries, is there anyone who has done this with the simple aquarium setup?

so i think i have seen this discussed but i don't really remember what the general concesus was. would it be possible to setup a system with no fish, just add like different organic matter that would decompose in the system, like a big compost heap but in water. isn't this the same as using the fish poop? when i added bone meal the my system the nitrate level went up, it was stinky but if the system was outside it wouldn't matter too much. what do you guys think

I think it is very possible. It is what people call hydroponics.

With organic waste you want to be careful about all the bacteria and nasties that may build up, especially in an anaerobic environment.
