Ok time for an update. First for some words and then for some photos.

It has been 6 months and I have been through some fish losses and some exceptional vegie growth. The remaining silver perch I put in have grown to a max size of around 200g. The recorded vegie production is as follows, however this is majorly understated as the not all household members remembered to record their use... I know I grew chillis, capsicums and had lettuce every day for weeks but not one recording... hmmm... maybe there was a whiteboard nazi hanging around rubbing things out. Anyway:
Bok Choi - 960g
Basil - 586g
Mizuna - 22g - about 2kg to the chooks
Beans - 444g
lettuce - 35g
English Spinach - 58g
Silverbeet - 642g
Tomatoes - 649g - various varieties
Celery - 1450g
Cucumber - 2769g
Snow Peas - 14g

There is still heaps of produce to harvest, at least another couple of kilos of cucumbers, a fresh batch of beans - multiple varieties, radishes, shit loads of basil, a couple of plants of toms ripening, 4 mature celery plants and so on.

Now for some fishies. First you will see a fish I cought on the weekend weighing in at over 200g, didn't measure his length though.

Second you will see some donated Tilapia from Joel. He handed over a mating pair, a funny bugger and 10 relatively small fingerlings. I believe the mating pair was given to him from Jonnie7AU - so thanks to you both.

I believe the female is carrying some eggs ATM and the small fry have at least doubled in size in the last month. They have been put inside in a 3ft and 4ft heated aquarium, which has sent the power bill through the roof.
Any suggestions on how to insulate an aquarium. I have some ideas but would prefer to hear of any experiences people have had.

One last one of my cucumber - not the biggest, will be harvesting that one soon.

I think we should have a largest cucumber contest.

BTW, I never really like cucumbers until growing these.

No bragging allowed, just remember, It's not the size of your cucumber it's how you slice it. :D

Seriously though, Nice growth I can only hope my system does as well.

It's funny, we never really ate much cucumber before AP  but now we're having half a cuc in the salad each day. Our kids will eat almost anything if we tell them we grew it here (oh the lies we can tell to the kids now  )

To address your earlier question, Fizzy. I wrapped a couple layers of bubble wrap around the back and sides of my large grow-out tank for insulation. Lids also help a great deal.

Hey Fizzy, awesome pictures!

Maybe put styrofoam board around three sides of the tank? (that's what I'm planning to do, but then again we have a lot of leftover blueboard!)

Well done Fizzy ...

Glad to see that your mossambiques are growing well! (They are such an amazin fish!)

Your growbeds look vey productive.

I would probably use a polystyrene base under the tanks (growbeds too!)

and perhaps do the sides in bubblewrap .. cos it's very cheap and easier to work with.

Well done!
