Pah, was not referring to smallness with "level" mean "to that level of accuracy" re: fish/plant ratios

ahhhh! now i understand.

i will take the approach of one or two plants at a time till they start to suffer.

still haven't got a nitrate test, will have to wait a couple of weeks for that.

another question, using a bathtub for a pond, what sort and how many fish should i put in it, and how many bathtub grow beds would that support?

using the figures that we go by, 2 bathtub growbeds per 1 bathtub fish tank.

I've never measured a bathtub volume, but i expect it to be betwee 200 and 300 liters, so that would give you a max stocking density of between 12 and 18 kgs of fish.

watch the water temps though, it will get cold during winter with only 200 ltrs.

id suggest going for the trout, just watch water quality, they're ot meant to be as hardy as SP.

I'm getting a batch for dad soon for the winter

It seems trout is in the air at the moment... I am also pondering getting some small trout fry and growing them out. But only if I know for sure the big system will be in place on schedule...

How long do trout take to grow out though? It gets hot in Canberra in Summer. From memory they've got a low tolerance to water temps. Don't want 'em dying half way grown....

my thinking is to buy them 5 or 6 inches in size ASAP, then grow them to plate size for christmas before it gets to hot.
