In my case the scoria pushed the Ph up to over 8.2 but is slowly coming down. Hasn't been a big problem but most prefer lower Ph's.

To make matters worse, I added lots of shell grit when I first set up the FTs and had to vacuum it all out. The GBs are now settling down nicely (after 8 months), but pH is still 8-8.2.

Hi Pete, I must of got a batch of the same stuff, though doubt it, I got mine in Qld, when I first set up my system my PH went as high as 8.2 and then settled to around 6.8 to 7.00 after a couple of months, I recently added two more GBs last weekend and the Ph has come back up to 7.6.
