Wow, you read the whole thread! :notworthy:

We run them for both reasons SeanD- they are certainly much easier because we don't have that twice yearly 'the fish have got to come out!', but we also find them very tasty- a lovely white fish that is well worth growing.

In fact we have given up on the barra in the AP system as we were having trouble getting them to grow to a decent size during the season. Now we have trout in winter, and put silver perch fingerlings in the AP tank to feed up over summer, then we catch them all in April and add them to the swimming pool, freeing up the FT for the trout.

We have been doing this for about three years now, and it is so much easier for us!

Goodness gracious! a >2700 grams fish from your swimming pool system. That must be some kind of record for backyardaquaponics! :notworthy: Congratulations :notworthy:

Thanks boss, we are pretty stoked! The pool is aquaculture though rather than aquaponics- we do have floating rafts in it but not grow beds connected in a AP style. It was how we started off before getting into the AP system, and it is great having both as we can still swim in the pool on Perth's 40C days!

Awesome I do recall that you can still use the pool. Your style of setup is more or less how I started out as well. I just wanted fish, lol!
