aluminum
Quote:
It has been suggested that aluminium is a cause of Alzheimer's disease, as some brain plaques have been found to contain the metal. Research in this area has been inconclusive; aluminium accumulation may be a consequence of the Alzheimer's damage

This was linked on the wikipedia article:

I can ask a doctor friend of mine next week when I'm in Boston about such stuff.

OK, over a kriek beer and hefe weizzen and some seafood soup, my doctor buddy said the study that the aluminum-alzheimers was contaminated in the lab. He said that their samples were contaminated with aluminum, which is why they found it. I will ask him for a reference link for this info. I asked if I could make an aquarium out of aluminum and he said sure, no problem.

I will try to get a definitive link to show that the lab work was flawed, if I can. If the info is wrong the article should mention and link to the alternative findings - that is how wikipedia is supposed to work.

Dave, "supposed to" is the key phrase, if it worked that way, the wiki fluoride page would link to the abundance of research papers refuting the long accepted view. But hey its worth a try :) The main thing is that the data is posted so people can make a choice on what to believe :)

The problem with that is that people aren't scientists and wikipedia isn't a reviewed scientific journal, so people get bad science passed off as facts. I'm not saying this is yet, but that needs to be kept in mind when reading such web info. If twenty scientific reports said something that would be different than some blog entries or pseudo-scientific "results".

Dave won't go on about it much more here, but the problem i'm talking about is FROM the scientific type that are to entrenched in what they have believed to accept NEW research that proved they were wrong. Pride.

It goes so confusing when it comes to what's good for you and what's not.

Take flouride, South Australians have been drinking flouridated water for decades and they seem to have the same longevity as people from other states. They also drink the most heavily chlorinated water in the country.

Almost all of their water is pumped directly from the Murray River which (at the South Australian end) is what's left after cotton growers, dairy farmers and orchardists in three states have taken their fill.

When I was in the Navy, there were two places that we wouldn't take on water.......Adelaide and Aden.

Australians have used aluminium cookware for at least 50 years (I prefer stainless steel and cast iron personally) and there doesn't seem to be any more nutters around than there used to be.

As a general rule, however, I'd agree that there are far too many chemicals around. The problems seems to be beyond most of us because we start every day by spraying ourselves with a variety of volatile compounds just to avoid the stigma of body odour.....and it's all down hill from there.

The desire for clean. fresh food is what drives my interest in micro-farming.
