Good afternoon. We are nearing completion of the first phase of our aquaponics build out just west of Mineola Texas.
Our current system is designed to have 1600 SF of DWC, 220 SF of Media beds, using 1/2" to 3/4" granite, two 1000 gallon fish tanks, and two 100 gallon induction tank filters. The Sump holds about 4000+ gallons.
This is currently being run with a 2100 GPH pump.
We installed fish four weeks ago, in two batches. Of the first batch, well, we killed a bunch. But the second has only had a couple of floaters. Biology is hard to get started, but it is going full bore at this point. Our fish are Coppernose bluegill, Moz Tilapia, and catfish. The catfish have been 97% of the mortality rate. Not a good fish to start with.
We also started up the system bacteria with about 15 gallons of pond water from our .5 acre spring fed pound in the back of the property.
We used Dura-Skrim 20mil for the liners. We only had to rebuild one of the bulkhead fittings.
In total, I estimate that the system is just under 18500 gallons.

Phase two should begin construction in a couple of months, essentially doubling the entire system.

We will be growing lettuce, salinova, basil, arugula, kale, and anything else somebody is will to pay us for.

We are excited to start the journey with all of you that are doing your own systems, whether commercial sized or using a 10 gallon aquarium...
