@Skeggly, funny you should say that because Bear was here last week and he said the same thing. There are fruit fly in our area although we haven't had much on our property so far. But, maybe the loquat will change that which is concerning. Hmmm....You think I should just pull it? Or see how we go?

My sons favourite fruit is the loquat and I'm partial to them also. Unfortunately you can do all you can to stop fruit fly in your garden, problem is, is that your neibours and their neibours and their neibours all need to do the same thing and as loquat trees are so hardy, growing productively with neglect, it rarely happens, but by all means give them a go they can be pruned to be really quite nice looking trees. I can't quite bring myself to chop mine down but it's days are numbered..... Good luck....
I'll always remember asking an old Italian fella how he deals with fruit fly and he said he has no problems with them and I asked for his secret and he told me it was no secret, he just doesn't bother growing susceptible fruit anymore, simple.
Still it would be nice if the neibours picked up their fruit when it falls on the ground.

Jejeje... I actually put out rotten fruit to attract fruit flies to attract hummingbirds. In nature, hummingbirds eat flower nectar for energy and bugs for protein. Really I've got plenty of sweet flowery things that attract the hummingbirds, but when I learned that they don't live on Red Bull like high-energy nectar 100%, but really need to eat tiny insects for protein, that is when I started putting out the occasional rotten fruit to give them a nutritious snack as they flitter from one nectar high to another.

So, Lady Bugs for Aphid control, Hummingbirds for Fruit Fly control... :thumbright:

Yea loving my backyard farming experiences these days.

I still fish a lot, but out of a boat these days.

Still have all the AP stuff, tons of fittings, pipe, pumps, bio-media, tanks, aerators, back ups, etc etc etc. The IBC's currently collect water from the house for the vegie patch until I have time for AP. FIFO plus all these kids I keep having just make life too busy to consider it just yet. But Im still gardening, learning and have future dreams of a larger system.

Mrs Charlie is in the beginnings of starting a plant nursery with her mum at our place so there is some major works in progress to set up for that, green house etc. That may just get the AP stuff kicking off depending on what produce sells in our area as we are rural, we have abundance of things seasonally so those products were only going to be a side thing to what Mrs Charlies selling which is mainly plants. Also there is a family next door that own a restaurant who are interested in purchasing fruit and veg from us on a more regular basis if we can support there requirements. Flipped the coin on the usual "how do I find the market for our produce?" haha. Got the resturant just dont have the infastructure. lol

So things may be kicking in soonish. Dunno.

p.s. oh crap I still haven't sent those have I column? Sorry cobba, life is busy here so I do apologise. Writing it on my hand right now! lol

Best of luck with it!

Hopefully I'll have some passionfruit seedlings popping up soon.
