Is there a simple way for me to incorporate solar panels into the system? My system is a 220 gallon system with two growbeds. I was thinking of using a 40 watt pump that pumps 550 gallons per hour. Anything on that?

Wait then how much wattage does the 12v battery hold?

depends on how many AH it is.

the larger the AH the more KWh.

volt x AH = watt hours.

Most batteries have around a 50% draw down capacity before damage is caused to the battery so you really need a battery of at least double the capacity you figure. If you get a 100 AH battery you'll only get to use 50 AH. And don't forget extra capacity for bridging over low input cloudy days.
