Anyone know how to cut 'n' gut a catfish for grilling (all I find are "filleting" instructions)?

Anyone know how to CATCH a pond catfish?

Rick

Happy Yoo Near Everbody!!

I just pulled mine out with a net. Then my mother in-law skinned them much like in this video:

If your pond is to mucky to see the fish (or the bottom) you can still use the net. Put the net on the bottom as far out as you can, then drag quickly toward the edge. As if you were dragging the bottom for leaves...just a lot faster. One or two passes this way should yeild a couple fish.

If the net is failing you, then I would just drop a line in with some chicken liver or worms on it. Enjoy brother! A well deserved meal I'm sure!

Ya - One year tomorrow. We are not doing the new years party this year. Have you seen this guy yet?

I sent an email about going for a visit, but have not heard back yet. Interested in a day trip?

Both videos lost me at "to skin the catfish..."

No offense, but the 2-to-3 pound channel cats are great grilled with skin on. Maybe when I get up to harvesting 20 at a time I will want to fillet for the freezer, but my grill will be fired up for whole catfish, split and brushed with a buttery, spicy, citrus-y mop and served whole with head.

I will study Vietnamese, learn the proper technique, and make a YouTube to put here for y'all

~~UPDATE~~
It's one year since a pump failure took out every fish in the pond while the wife & I were on a two-week vacation.
The Big Kill frees me up to:
  • Line the Ceee-ment Pond to rein in the altitude of the pH
  • Lose the Rain Tree that just craps in the pond
  • Re-plumb and slope the Main Drain Line that comes back to the Pond from the yard
  • Maaaybe, commission an above-ground Fish Tank

TL;DR: I'm (almost) Baaaaaaack!
Once my Kitchen Remodel From Hell is finally done, I will put my Aqua Wizard hat firmly back on my head. Watch This Space.

The Kitchen Remodel From Hell is almost done. We now have countertop, sink after 2+ years. Oven soon.
Can't wait to get back in the garden.
Pump has not been run since my Dad died, but the big 300-Gallon growbed still has the main Grape vine (I cut back last fall and made two dozen Baby Grapevines), the Rescued Mandarin Orange and a Meyer Lemon I rooted straight in the AP media.
Hi to new readers from /r/Spacex!

Time to commission the above ground tank perhaps. Look forward to seeing what you get going :thumbleft:

Yes, I do agree it is time for an aboveground fish tank. Keep the pond for ornament and maybe a few Koi in it.
