Good day everyone

just purchased 3 pcs 55gallon drum at around 10 bucks each...

just a thought if i split the drum for my growbed and have another drum laying in its side for the fish tank wont the water be to low if the 2 grow beds get filled with water? can this affect the fishes? or do i use half drum for the plant bed to a fish tank drum? what size submersible pump do you think i will need? the pumps available are 500 liter per hour, 650 and 1,500 liter per hour do you think i should go with the 1500 liter per hour pump? so i would have more power for expansion? will get my grave by next week and the assembly will begin... :)

look under announcements (quite a few handy things there) - viewforum.php?f=4

the one you want is "A quick tutorial on adding images to posts"
(currently 3rd on list, but always near top)

are you getting a larger fish tank ? That would be a pretty handy upgrade.

the blue drum on side will be OK as a sump, or else use a drum upright so the pump stays immersed easier.

Dlf perth the blue drum will be my main fish tank had trouble with the raising and lowering of water so i bought 2 black bins to act as my sump tank.. Cant go any larger at the moment because of space limitation... If this works great will expand at our roof deck hehehe

I think that's my cue :D .

Why not run using Constant Flood and then the siphons and the fluctuations in the water level won't be a problem. You can always throw a siphon on occasionally if you're setup for it.

If it wont start it's not got enough water flowing through it. Having a funnel shape in the top of the siphon can help with this.

If it's not stopping then it's not getting enough air in at the bottom of the bell when it's supposed to break, open up the bottom some more or cut back the water flow a touch.

Not sure about others but I've found that a bell that is too tall can lead to a very temperamental siphon, as can one that is too short. Not sure what the magic gap between the bell and standpipe are but I'm sure there is one.

Sean_D : thanks for the help... its been a head scratcher for me hahaha have a 3/4 inchs pit with a 1 inch adapter on top to start siphon but i dont know what i did wrong when we were testing with out all the heavy stuff it worked well... now the fish tank is full and the grow bed filled with gravel now its giving me problems.. hahaha who would have thought right..

They always act differently once there is gravel in the bed!
