Just watched it on iView. 1 kg in 8 months sounds great. How come they grow so much faster in the aquaculture context?

I'm guessing it's the meat they are feeding them instead of pellets.

It looked like chunks of carp in one of the scenes. By the look of the water in some of the dams, I suspect they could taste a but on the muddy side.

No idea, I haven't seen it for over 6 months! It's pretty hard to see because when I lean over to have a look, a lot of trout come over and block the view. I'll be taking ~20 trout out in a few days, so maybe I'll spot it then if I happen to net it in the dark.

Are you still feeding it ox heart? Or does it have to compete with the trout for pellets?

No ox heart for a very long time, it's had to compete with the trout for pellets or worms this and last year. I've had no deaths in the FT this year, so it is still in there somewhere.

Unless the trout have gobbled them up.

How big were they before the trout went in?

I only left one MC in, it was about the same size as the trout when they went in.

Or maybe you have a monster Murray Cod that's gobbling up the slow trout.

Is it possible they were using some sort of hormone to stimulate growth?

Just that I've trawled this forum for every post I can find about MC and many were feeding ox heart or even live foods... but nobody seemed to be getting good growth rates. My MC are growing slowly on pellets... and will hopefully get hungrier with warmer water... but growth rates are nothing like jade perch.

Could be stocking densities, the higher it is, then the more competitive they are for food, and eat each other less. But they need to be graded and separated more often, which is hard when you don't have lots of available tanks.

My MC had plenty of competition for food from 120 rainbow trout last year, but that didn't encourage it to grow any faster! This year it had 140 rt, but I wont know how big it is until I next spot it.
