Good day Chiumanfu

Did you receive the PM that I sent to you? It is still in my outbox folder........ don't know if it was even actually sent out as it is NOT in the sent folder. Had couple questions concerning the Tentacle shield/Altas sensors.

Take care, peace

Finally got around to reading this whole thread, what a brilliant project.

A series of sensors hooked up to an arduino or Pi has been on the cards for me for a while, I've built a few prototypes so far but nothing so complete as this. Your PCB's look great too.

One thing that may be of interest to those who would prefer WiFi is to look at the nodeMCU - its based on the ESP8266 wifi chip but has much the same functionality as an Arduino (not quite as much grunt though). It comes with a firmware which uses the LUA language which is fairly easy to program, but can be easily converted to use the Arduino IDE.

The best thing about them is they usually cost a few pounds/dollars and have WiFi built in.

I was looking for automated aquaponic project and I found this forum. Excellent. My wife and I are new to aquaponics and are in process of building one based on IBC etc and wanted to automate it as much as possible.

My background Electronic Engineer, extensive Arduino experience, robotics background, used many of sensors in forum, temperature, sonar, Xbee etc. So I look forward to jumping in with the rest of you.

Very good Peter.

What is represented by this board? What sensors do you have?

Look forward to hearing more and possibly working with this project.

Doug

As with DougL above, I too am looking for an automated aquaponic project to adapt and I found this forum. My wife and I are new to aquaponics and are in process of building one based on IBC totes - 4 totes so far. And I want to automate it as much as possible connecting it via wi-fi, Iot - like at some point.

I am an old [retired] programmer - think punched cards! I was given an Arduino starter kit some time ago and just recently decided on this aquaponics system to make good use of it. I am not much of an electronics engineer though. And both the wife and I are new to growing our own food.

I am interested in adding some of the most common water sensors, automating fish feeding and some flow controls. I purchased web space on a shared nodeJS server from a hosting provider and plan to interface monitoring data via a simple web page accessible by phone, tablet and/or computer. For system alerts/alarms I hope to use text messaging.

We converted an old shed attached to an older cinderblock schoolhouse into a greenhouse for our grow beds - one is up and running for now, with 4 or 5 more yet to be add. Fish tank, sump tank and most of the plumbing is inside the schoolhouse where I got the heating and cooling up and running for the limited space we needed. Plenty of room for more fish tanks and we are planning some outside grow beds next season.

I still need to read the rest of this project’s forum pages, front to back so to speak. But already find the project and involved posters very interesting. I am hoping that some will help me get something up and running, a good kickstart perhaps, or I may be sleep on the couch - permanently.

Hi gsb,

Welcome to the BYAP forum! Nothing wrong with punched cards... Although I think I finally lost my last card deck for an IBM 360/370 assembler I was working on about 15 years ago. Yeah, I guess that is a problem with punched cards -- longevity! ;-) Looking forward to seeing your system and more come together. Don't forget to start a build thread so you'll have a good spot to document it all. It is also a good spot for folks to comment on your ideas and provide advice. Don't worry about the electronics engineering part. These days all the documentation and examples one might need are freely available on the Internet and with the widespread use of Arduinos and Raspberry Pis and others there's no need to wire-wrap your logic together chip-by-chip.

Hi all. Good to see the dust getting blown off this thread, it stagnated there for awhile as did my personal progress. I purchased all the parts and a massive cabinet but never got beyond that. Hope to make more progress soon.
