That sucks, sounds like you just got nailed. Those long rains happen in the winter here but not with the intensity you get. Hope you can get back at it soon Andreas but enjoy the beer in the meantime :thumbright:

PS - We're getting some of your weather (but without the humidity) we hit 104F yesterday. It's supposed to be 100 today. Rotisserie chickens must feel like this :violent3: :? .

Thanks guys, frame is fixed a couple of new fittings, replacement clips and it's good to go,just on purpose the shop for the plastic was f in closed so Monday now for the cover. Poor old plants took a hammering but with luck they will bounce back.
On the subject of storm damage I went round to the commercial AP to make sure they survived, there greenhouse is concreted into the ground using three inch steel tubes for the uprights, they have a plastic roof cover, bug screen sides. The force of the storm has bent the uprights to the greenhouse, the whole structure is leaning over close to 10 degrees,I have to go back today I will get a pic as it truly shows the force of the wind as it ripped down the mountains.
Oh and I saved the fan,got the memsab to dry everything with her hair drier left it for the rest of the day, didn't go bang when I plugged it in so jobs a good un as they say.... :thumbright:

Sriprasad, there is a company in Malaysia that manufacture a similar looking green house only theres has a large roof vent, its claimed the design assists in air movement and will keep the intrieor 1.5c than the outside.
Charlie, the beer helped right up until this morning.... :drunken:
Anywho, pic from this afternoon, still a bit to do but it was so dam hot and with humidity at 100% it made it difficult to work, plus drinking to much helps you perspire even more.

Whoops just looked at the pic again, this design has a roof vent, maybe its the greenhouse from Malaysia...

I am trying to work out how to grow anything successfully when we have a daily humidity of 100%,today when i checked it was 26c,humidity 94%,these sort of figures just make life even more tricky.I have read up on Vapour Pressure Deficit in conjunction with calcium uptake, with todays figures at 26c,70% is the desired humidity i was at 95% way of the mark, transpiration is reduced to such a level there are no nutrients being taken up by the plants. At 26c and 70% humidity, the VPD figure is 10.1,my figures come out at 1.7.

Having experienced this a number of times in the past as well, I decided to order one of these weather monitors / forecasters, a little while back. It's still at my brother's home in the US. But, I will have it, as well as some other necessary items, shipped over soon. You may wish to consider buying one as well, mate?

September of last year, we had a similar storm here in Battambang. Three meter overhangs were on the large home I had rented. The wind was so strong that it blew the rain well into the home, as though it were nothing to accomplish.

I have seen the weather stations,I would like one but my list of things I want just goes on getting longer... :laughing3:
I got off very lightly in comparison to some,I just lost the plastic off the tunnel, some people had serious roof damage then added water damage as well, there was large areas flooded out,in a forested area close the trees on the outside edge are all down, the list goes on,nature has a way of reminding us how fragile we are at times. On the plus side power only went out for an hour, quite romantic sat around in candle light,in the past power outages during storms have lasted 8 hrs +.

Hey Andy, glad to see you've recovered so quickly.
Already looks like you're back, how are the plants doing?

Martin.

Short of closing the greenhouse off from the outside and reducing the humidity or heat I can't think of anything to cure that problem with the humidity. Most of the places where I had to deal with the heat weren't as humid as that :dontknow: and the places where it was humid were cooler  . Maybe you should just hang the plants higher above the water, it's not like they really need it anyway :D

People in Florida might be able to point you right - They have plenty of humidity and heat and I know they have a lot of businesses growing plants in greenhouses.

Scotty, there isn't much one can do about humidity, its still 90% plus everyday, its just makes it difficult with dosing, there is evidence of a Calcium deficiency in the lettuce but it doesn't mean its not there just there not taking it up.....
Anyway update time, the system is now officially decoupled, fish side and plant side, first of all excuse the mess, its rained heavy every day so its still very much a work in progress.First pic shows the new sump of 800 litres, the three pipes are the temporary inlet from the MT,the second is the inlet from the pump in the fish side sump, the third which is the two inch tap is the drain for the sump, the last one being the outlet from the pump to the DWCs,the pump runs 3 hours per day,1 1/2 hours in the morning, which ensures the dwc is turned over, the same early evening.
Filtration is now handled by the 5 RFFs,3 upflow cap filters and the trickle tower which has had a forth layer installed, media is oyster shells, bio balls, pumice stone and my own home made media, switch over was Thursday last week with Saturdays water check showing 0 for Ammonia and Nitrite.

The top layer of the trickle tower has my own media in it,this was made from plastic mesh, hole size about 5mm,this was cut so to pieces fitted across the tray,i rolled it to the internal diameter of 1 1/4 pvc pipe so i could use this as a jig to hold it where i used a soldering iron to weld down the edge to keep it in its roll, its hollow through the middle, maybe the holes a little to big,but there will be four layers of this in the top tray,so a huge amount os surface to air contact.
Finally i have switched back to vertical inlet manifolds in the fish tanks, the pump that was running everything is only a 50 watt pump,so this has been kept to run the fish side the extra flow being handy to push the rotation speed up.helping to clean the tanks, the system now has a second pump, but as said this only runs for three hours. When i was building this it is easy to see how the system could be run with an airlift pump, but not so easy to convert over to.
