Quick update...RFF installed, recent additions include a few doses of ammonia,PH meter, feeder goldfish and the purchase of 5 more bags of clay balls and 2 bags of perlite.(I'm thinking about dual root zone blueberrys in a flood and drain bed) now waiting on nitrates to appear. Testing and recording data daily.

Temp/w. 11
PH 7.5
PPM 340
Ammonia 0.50
Nitrite 0.10
Nitrate. 0>0.50

Aren't blueberries too acidic for most fish to coexist?

Will those be on a separate system entirely or how would you partition a single system trying to maintain two pH targets?

Hey casey

I was thinking of trying a duel root zone setup, consisting of a mix of 50/50 peat/perlite and some worm castings with a layer of clay balls on top separated by a layer burlap or similar material with clay media below. With this setup I was hoping for the best of both worlds.Low ph upper feeder section with amendments as needed and lower roots being in contact with flood and drain cycle.I know it sounds a little hair brained but I think it may be worth a try.

Nothing wrong with trying, I'd just try small. ;)

I'm no expert but would expect an acidic mix to affect the water, possibly amplified by any decomposition from peat.

Blueberries should work - they prefer lower pH but 6.5 is still OK.

System has cycled :flower: Now need to decide on what fish species to stock, I was thinking either Bass or Murray and cod at the moment.
