Wow Mel, that is a great progress. :thumbright: I was not on the forum for a month and I see all this, really great. Gives me ideas for my new project :D

Thanks guljo, and welcome back! A month, ooh, you got to read about the hoop house construction in one fell swoop. It felt like it took longer!

"New project"... sounds like the expansion bug is biting!

It is for sure, but my terrace is more or less full, so will have to wait for the autumn ;)

I have 5 very similar tanks - smaller but same colour and materials. You should have no troubles drilling your hole and getting a good seal with the tank fitting. I had some leaking - fixed with a generous application of silicone... but this was because I was forced to drill my hole on the curved end rather than on one of the straight sides of the tank.

The tanks look brand new after a couple of years in the weather. So my system will hopefully look as good as yours seems certain to be - when I finally make good on my promise to paint all the plumbing and other extras a matching colour.

That's good to know, Dave! :thumbright: I'm going to be drilling on the curved end too, I'll make sure to blob on the silicone as necessary. Nice to know they're as durable as they claim too!

A little trick from my auto-mechanic days; After gooing the silicone on, tighten the bulkhead ever so lightly, then let the silicone dry and firm up for a half a day if you can. When you come back to tighten it the silicone makes a rubber like gasket and won't ooze out.

I'll do that, Brian - I've got a bunch of things to do before I can get water in the system, so I've got the time.

My fish tank is arriving tomorrow... maybe... or possibly Thursday. The excuse given by the delivery driver was that the silicone sealant on it is still wet; given that the silicone on the tank they did deliver today is still pretty darn wet, I think it's possible that the silicone for the fish tank is still in the tube. :-P

Haaaahahahahahahahaha! Yup, confirmed. Fish tank is still not sealed. :bootyshake:

Braces! These were fun to put up (I'm serious, not sarcastic-fun-argh-it-was-a-pain, I enjoyed it :geek: ) - 2mm balustrade wire, eye bolts, hooks, and turnbuckles.

The wires are up in two Vs, crossing from the bottom of the arch up to the top ridge and back down on the other side. They're not enormously tight, just under a little tension, but the hoop house doesn't wobble lengthwise at all any more!

So far it's been:

12 x 32mm heavy duty rigid DETA conduits @ $6.60 ea - $79.20
12 x 165cm black Ultraposts (star pickets) @ $10.30 ea - $123.60
3 x 70x22x5.4m treated pine decking @ $10.53 ea - $31.59
12 x 70x22x4.8m treated pine decking @ $9.36 ea - $112.32
10 x 31x11x5.4m primed pine lengths @ $7.00 ea - $70.00
1 x stake driver @ $12.99
2 x rolls of duct tape @ $10.00 ea - $20
assorted fixings and brackets... call it another $25

and the greenhouse film is going to be at least $300, that isn't finalised yet.

soooo... $774.70, plus whatever more the rest of the greenhouse film is going to be, plus any other assorted screws etc I end up needing.

Plus:
staple gun from Spotlight - $21.98
pack of staples, ditto - $6.59
assorted brackets and washers - $26
2 x 70x22x4.8m treated pine decking @ $9.36 ea - $18.72
even more brackets and some screws - $23.62
2 x turnbuckles @ $6.98 ea - $13.96
2 pack ceiling hooks - $3.80
2 x 10m 3mm wire rope @ $15.37 ea - $30.74
2 x 2 pack eye bolts @ $2.68 ea - $5.36
2 x 2 pack wire rope grips @ $7.40 ea - $14.80
Greenhouse zip - $25.00

Total: $965.27

...and that total might come down a little bit, because although I'm probably going to need to get more staples, it looks like I'm not going to need as much greenhouse film as I thought.

End result: a greenhouse that is the size I need, with the exact openings etc that I need, for less than 40% what I would have had to pay for a commercially constructed greenhouse that wouldn't work as well for me. :thumbright:
