Hello everybody!!

I am Steven,

I have been into (self)sustainable living for a year now.
I am trying to get as much information i can about everything connected to (self)sustainable living.

I am wanting to build a Red Ceder Log home next year (coming from the USA).
Because Holland has high building regulations, i have to put in allot of insulation.
That is not a problem, but costs a lot and is (almost) against the "normal" ways of log building.

Never the less.
I am trying to start a home similar to what you call a "homestead".

Not connected to the grid,
my own water source,
something called a "helofytenfilter" (dutch word) for waist filtration.

Got my self a couple of chickens and turkey's to start with.
Got enough acres to put in potatoes and wheat/burley/grains.

Next year i will be expanding the apple orchard.
Also wanting to plant willows for "knoting" and feeding my woodgasifier and wood stove's.

But, here it comes, i also want to add a Aquaponic system.
It must be big enough to feed 2 people in my household, and my 2 parents which live next door.

I have a sketch(up) and a raw idea.
Also building a little system at the moment to learn and try.

Dude. Post that sketch up! Some really wise people on here; if you're seriously wanting to rely on aquaponics for food you will want feedback from folks on this forum. At least i would.

Basically that's what the Dutch water companies are using in the dunes on a larger scale.
