I guess I wouldn't make a very good detective...never noticed the "quote" button.
Thanks.

My wife is right, I'm blind. Even though at my last physical, they said I had 20-20 vision and "the blood of a 20 year old", whatever that means. :dontknow:

OK, I can now source some organic 40% protein fish pellets. ATM due to the small production run they are sinking pellets, they need a much larger run to use the machine that produces floating pellets, but they should be available in the future.
I don't have a firm price yet, but I think I'll be able to sell them to BYAP members for under $6/kg, and perhaps closer to $5/kg (+ freight or free pickup) if anyone is interested. I'm grabbing a couple of 20kg bags for now, maybe more if I get any orders. Let me know ASAP!
thanks

Over here, and I had to look this up as it is too early in the morning to be considered awake.
Skrettings Classic Trout floating is $43.76 / 40 lbs (18.1 kg) delivered making it about a US dollar per pound or US $2.4 per kilo. At least it lasts a long time. If I harvested now after 9 months I'd have spent less than a $100.00 on feed for 45 Brook trout for that season. That's what? $2.09 per fish? Double this for organic feed? It isn't out of the question.

What's the protein used? Fish meal, or something else?

I think there is some fish meal, but there is vegetable protein from grains, soy etc too. I can find out if you like.
I know wholesale organic grains cost about 5X non-organic but prices should not be too much more than regular pellets.
It has been formulated by a nutritionist using published guidelines for fish feed.

Brian, your fish pellets are much less expensive than in Australia, the organic wont be much more than regular feed.

Colum, here is what I have from the manufacturer. Of course, the exact formulation is secret, but it is produced to comply with Australian organic standards.

This fish pellets formulation includes wheat, mung beans, chickpea, and meals including copra, fish, meat and soy meals. There is also a premix of minerals and vitamins. We formulate to an analysis to maintain consistency as supply of inputs can vary seasonally.

I'd probably like to do 2 or 2.5kg as the smallest order (or whatever will fit in the 3kg satchel and not exceed 3kg total). I'll just be charging regular prepaid satchel Auspost rates ( http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/prep ... lopes.html ), + $1 for vacuum packing the pellets.

I don't know price per kg for the pellets yet, because that hasn't been worked out, and I also don't know how much freight is going to cost me to get the bags to me (which could be a killer if they want to charge a full pallet rate), but will post that info when I have it.

If your trout do well on it I would be interested in 20 or so kilo's. Is it formulated for trout, does it make them pink and what size pellets are available ?
